Why aren't we talking about sex?

Our bodies change. Our hormones change. Our desires change. So why aren't we talking about it?

For generations, women have been expected to quietly navigate changes in their bodies, hormones, sexuality and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes I feel like a cow set out to pasture, sometimes I feel like I don't recognize the woman in the mirror, and sometimes I'm like - "oh, I sexy!" All of these shifting realities and no real space to talk about it.

As a woman in my early 50s, I know what it's like to navigate perimenopause without a roadmap and or the information I needed.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)? What's that?

Would have been nice to know about that during my weight gain, exhaustion, night sweats, and more. Instead I was tested for thyroid issues, told to 'eat less', 'exercise more', reduce my stress, start taking vitamins, go on a GLP1 and more.

No one talked to me about what was really happening — and I know I'm not alone!

Thankfully, those conversations are beginning to change. Awareness of menopause is growing and more research and resources are becoming available. But with so much information out there, how do we know where to turn? Who do we trust? And how do we know which questions to ask?

That's why I wanted to give a shout-out to Erin Beattie, founder of helloNila — a woman who has drawn on lived experience to help make menopause information and support more accessible.

If you're navigating perimenopause, menopause, or simply wanting to understand more about your changing body, I encourage you to explore what Erin is building.

During Week Three of Fauxvember — Sexual & Hormonal Health (November 15 - 21), we'll be paying attention to our bodies and opening up the conversations about the things that have too often been hushed away.

Hormones. Menopause. Sexuality. Intimacy. Desire. Body confidence. And all those questions we've been sometimes too embarrassed (or unsure) to ask.

Not because there's something wrong with us.

Not because we need fixing.

But because we deserve the time and space to understand ourselves better and feel comfortable with these conversations.

And maybe, just maybe, we'll hear from some of the incredible women helping to change the conversation. 💗

No perfection. No judgement. Just paying attention.
